IceBattery® Proves Mission-Critical Green Cold-Chain Performance Across the India Himalayas/Ladakh

IceBattery® Hybrid mode with 90% without power maintains both temperature and humidity control over more than 1300 KM, offering a lower-cost and better-quality

NEW DELHI, INDIA, August 24, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Innovation Thru Energy Co., Ltd. (ITE), its Indian subsidiary IceBattery Pvt. Ltd., and Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR), an enterprise under India’s Ministry of Railways, today announced the successful completion of a high-altitude cold-chain demonstration transporting Ladakh-grown apricots to New Delhi by road in an IceBattery®-equipped 32-ft hybrid truck.

A demanding route—and a measurable result: The truck completed the journey from July 17–20, 2026, covering more than 1,300 km through mountainous terrain and summer conditions. Trial data recorded an average cargo temperature of approximately 5°C and relative humidity of about 80%, with ambient temperatures averaging around 35°C and more at some place. IceBattery® provided passive thermal support for approximately 90% of the transit period, substantially reducing dependence on powered refrigeration while helping to protect the apricots from drying and quality loss.

For Ladakh’s farmers, this is more than a vehicle trial. The region’s premium apricots have often depended on costly air freight through New Delhi because conventional long-distance road options could not provide the required combination of temperature stability, humidity management and reliability. At the request of the Ladakh Government, CONCOR initiated this green cold-chain framework to help connect Himalayan producers with Pan-India and global markets.

From a Himalayan-Ladakh mission to a global cold-chain platform: IceBattery® is pre-charged by electricity before departure and stores cooling capacity for use in transit. In passive mode, it maintains controlled conditions without operating an onboard compressor or consuming refrigeration fuel. The same platform can be configured for hybrid trucks 32-ft,24-ft,-20f and 40-ft 20-ft shipping containers, portable cold rooms and other temperature-controlled infrastructure—coupled with IB-Trace, ITE’s DX platform, to make every journey visible and auditable.

• Food and agriculture: fresh produce, dairy, seafood and other perishables
• Life sciences: GDP-aligned 2–8°C applications for pharmaceuticals and diagnostic bio-chemical materials
• IB-Trace DX platform: real-time location, temperature, humidity and door open/close status; alerts; and end-to-end journey traceability

Potential impact: Based on the demonstration, the partners estimate that road transport using IceBattery® could reduce logistics cost by approximately 40% compared with air freight on this route, while increasing payload capacity and market reach. Wider deployment could also lower refrigeration energy use, fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions. These estimates should be validated through additional commercial-scale operations and route-by-route measurement.

“This mission shows that geography should not decide whether a farmer can reach a premium market,” said Pankaj Garg, Founder and CEO of Innovation Thru Energy. “By combining Japanese thermal-engineering know-how, Indian manufacturing and CONCOR’s logistics leadership, IceBattery® can create a new cold-chain model—from Himalayan farms to customers across India and the world. Passive in transit, digitally connected and globally scalable, it offers a practical path toward a more reliable and sustainable cold chain.”
